Why we built Valify

It started with a number that kept coming up in conversations with health and safety managers, and nobody was surprised by it: 15 to 20 hours a week spent reading documents. Not writing them, not walking sites, not sitting down with a subcontractor who has got something wrong — reading. RAMS after RAMS, most of them broadly fine, all of them needing to be checked properly anyway, because the one you skim is the one with the gap in it.

That is half a working week of concentration spent on a task that is genuinely important and almost entirely mechanical. And it is not evenly distributed. It piles up before a project starts, it lands on a Friday afternoon, and it has to be finished before work can begin on Monday.

Which leads to the part that actually made us build something. Nobody reads the fortieth document of the week the way they read the first. Attention is a finite resource, and a thorough manual review depends on it entirely: holding fifteen sections in your head at once, noticing that a hazard listed on page four never gets a control measure on page nine, spotting that the PPE section is generic boilerplate that does not match the specific work described three pages earlier. Those are exactly the checks that fatigue takes first.

That is the real cost. Not the hours — the gaps. A tired reviewer is not a careless one; they are a person doing a job that asks more sustained attention than any person has to give, forty documents deep. The consequences of what gets missed land on people working at height, in confined spaces, next to moving plant. We did not think that should depend on how far through the pile somebody was when they got to your document.

So Valify was built to do the exhaustive first read — the part that never gets tired, never skims section eleven because section ten was fine, and never gets to Friday. What it hands back is a shorter, sharper job for the person who is qualified to do it.

What we believe

Safety-critical work is a bad place to be vague about what software is for. These are the positions Valify is built on, and the ones we would defend if the product ever pulled against them.

1. 01

   A machine should read. A person should decide.

   Reading every line of a document, consistently, at eleven at night, is exactly the work software is good at. Deciding whether a control measure is adequate for a specific site, on a specific day, with a specific crew, is not. Valify does the first job so your people have the attention left for the second.

2. 02

   Being wrong loudly beats being wrong quietly.

   Valify raises things it is not certain about, because a flag your reviewer dismisses in ten seconds costs almost nothing and a gap nobody saw can cost a great deal. Every flag carries the section it came from and the reasoning behind it, so it can be checked rather than taken on trust.

   Confidence has to be earned by showing the work.

   An AI tool that hands back a score and no reasoning asks to be believed. We would rather be checked. If Valify cannot point to where in the document a finding came from and why it matters, that finding has no business being in the report.

4. 04

   Accountability cannot be automated.

   When something goes wrong on a site, the question is who reviewed the document and what they concluded. That answer has to be a person with the competence to stand behind it. No product decision we make will ever blur that line to look more capable than we are.

Our commitment

Three things we will not trade away, written down here so you can hold us to them.

• Valify flags for human review. It does not replace it.

  Every issue Valify raises is a potential concern for your qualified health and safety personnel to consider. It is a first read, not a verdict, and it is designed to hand your reviewer a shorter, better-organised job — never to take the job off them.

• Documents are never kept beyond 90 days.

  Uploaded documents and their reports are permanently deleted 90 days after upload. You can delete anything sooner from your dashboard at any time, and deletion means deletion — not archiving.

• Valify will never claim to certify or approve a document.

  No Valify report constitutes a compliance certification, a professional safety assessment or a sign-off of any kind. Accepting a document in Valify records your own decision. That line is deliberate, and we will not move it because it would make the product easier to sell.
